AI fitness coach: how Nalko turns your data into decisions

A conversation, useful context and controlled changes: what the agent will actually do, what stays in your hands and how it differs from a human coach.

See how it works

What does Nalko’s AI fitness coach do?

Nalko’s prototype can chat with you, review your workouts, meals, programs and prepared meals when requested, then prepare a concrete adjustment. It never applies a change silently: you review the proposal, confirm it and the app updates the relevant data before opening the useful area.

The context it connects before answering

A generator answers a prompt. A coaching agent becomes more useful when it connects your question with what you actually did.

  1. 01

    The conversation

    Understand the request

It speaks in natural language, can ask for clarification and explains why it is suggesting a change.

  2. 02

    Your training

    Compare with reality

It can review available workout history, programs and routines to keep your request in context.

  3. 03

    Your nutrition

    Connect meals and goals

It can review available food logs, search for food and prepare an addition or quantity adjustment.

  4. 04

    Your approval

    Keep you in control

A proposal remains a proposal until you confirm it. You keep the final say and can refuse it.

This loop adds continuity without turning AI into autopilot. Better data can provide better context, but it cannot guarantee a perfect answer.

From your request to a change in the app

The intended flow resembles a short coaching exchange, with a clear control step before anything is written.

  1. 1. You describe a need

For example, make a workout lighter, evolve a routine or adjust today’s meal.

  2. 2. The agent gets useful context

It reviews only the relevant data currently available in the prototype.

  3. 3. It explains the proposal

The change, reasoning, limits and affected items are shown clearly.

  4. 4. You accept or decline

No training or nutrition proposal is applied without explicit confirmation.

  5. 5. Nalko applies it and opens the right place

After approval, the targeted data is saved and the app opens the relevant area so you can review it.

How AI will change the interface and goals

Changing the interface does not mean freely redesigning the app. Once a proposal is approved, Nalko updates the relevant program, meal or data and opens the tab where you can check it.

Calorie, macro, weight and step goals matter for coherent coaching, but automatic goal editing is not available in the current prototype. Any future version should keep the same rule: a clear reason, a measurable proposal and your approval before application.

  • One identifiable change at a time.
  • The previous and new values stay visible.
  • A reason connected to available data.
  • You can decline without losing the current plan.

Can it behave like a human coach?

Nalko aims to reproduce the useful moves in a coaching conversation, not to claim that a model has a person’s experience, observation or judgment.

  1. What it can reproduce

Listen, request context, connect data, explain a decision and suggest a concrete action you can approve.

  2. What humans still do better

Observe technique and overall condition, detect unrecorded nuance, build a relationship and handle complex situations professionally.

The fair comparison is an in-app coaching assistant: more contextual than a text generator, but neither infallible, autonomous nor a replacement for a qualified professional.

What exists today — and what does not

The AI coach is a development prototype and is not yet available in the published app. Its current scope covers conversation, targeted review of workouts and meals, and approved proposals.

  • It does not monitor you continuously or act in the background.
  • It does not yet read weight, steps, sleep or recovery directly.
  • It does not automatically edit calorie, macro, weight or step goals.
  • It does not diagnose or replace a doctor, dietitian or qualified coach.
  • AI can be incomplete or wrong; check important decisions and seek professional guidance when needed.

Sources and level of evidence

Research on conversational agents is growing, but studies remain heterogeneous and do not show that a general AI coach replaces human support.

  1. Chatbots for physical activity, diet and weight management — systematic review
  2. Conversational agents for weight management — systematic review
  3. Large language models for exercise and health coaching — scoping review
  4. Quality of chatbot answers about exercise prescription
  5. WHO — ethics and governance of generative AI for health
