A calorie estimate is a starting point, not a measurement of your metabolism
The calculation first estimates resting energy expenditure with the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, then adds explicit assumptions for steps, strength-training volume, and your selected goal. Accurate inputs improve consistency, but the output remains a statistical estimate. Two adults with the same height and body weight can expend different amounts because of body composition, spontaneous movement, occupation, recovery, and measurement error.
Read the number as a target worth testing, not as an instruction to eat exactly that amount every day. Meals can vary while the weekly average remains close. This is more realistic than chasing apparent single-calorie precision. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, an eating disorder, a medical condition, or clinical nutrition needs fall outside a general calculator and call for appropriately qualified care.
A starting example An estimated maintenance intake of 2,400 kcal does not prove that your expenditure is exactly 2,400. It defines a test. A broadly stable two-week weight average with good adherence supports the estimate; a clear repeated trend gives you a reason to revise it.

Energy balance explains the direction of change, not every scale fluctuation
Over time, loss of body mass requires energy intake to remain below expenditure, while gain requires the reverse. That principle does not mean every rise or fall on the scale represents fat gained or lost. Water, glycogen, sodium, food in the digestive tract, the menstrual cycle, and weighing time can move scale weight much faster than body tissue changes.
If weighing is appropriate for you, collect measurements under similar conditions and use a multi-day average. Read that average alongside steps, completed workouts, logged intake, and adherence. A theoretically perfect target followed three days out of seven is less informative than a slightly less ambitious target followed consistently. Adherence is part of the experiment, not a moral grade.

Calibrate for fourteen days with four simple signals
Fourteen days begin to reduce day-to-day noise while remaining short enough to correct an obviously unsuitable target. During this period, keep the same average calorie target, a realistic step range, and comparable training volume. Note unusual events such as travel, illness, a very salty meal, or a missed week of training so that you do not give them an exaggerated physiological meaning.
At the end, review average body weight, steps, adherence to intake, and completed training together. For maintenance, a mostly stable trend supports the target. For loss or gain, look for gradual movement that fits your objective and tolerance rather than imposing one universal rate. If your records are too incomplete to interpret, extend the observation instead of manufacturing a precise conclusion.

Adjust one variable and protect what is already working
If the trend still conflicts with your goal despite sufficiently consistent data, change one thing: average calorie intake, average steps, or one practical barrier that prevented adherence. A modest adjustment is easier to interpret than cutting food, sharply increasing cardio, and rebuilding every meal at once. Date the change, then keep the new setup long enough to observe its effect.
Preserve the basics that support health and training: a suitable protein range, varied foods, adequate fat, carbohydrates compatible with activity, and a plan you can live with. Marked fatigue, dizziness, rapid weight loss, obsessive tracking, or disordered eating signals are reasons to stop self-adjusting and seek qualified support.

- 02 Record without reacting

- 04 Change one lever
